The Chinese American Biosciences Association in North Carolina (CABA-NC) and Chinese Association for Science & Technology – NC Chapter (CAST-NC) cordially invite you to attend “China Nanjing Biotechnology and New Medicine Industry Promotion Seminar”, which will be co-hosted by CABA-NC and CAST-NC and sponsored by Nanjing government. This event aims to introduce to the domestic and overseas talents about the preferential policies concerning science and technology innovation and entrepreneurship in Nanjing, to deepen mutual understanding and collaboration between Nanjing and North Carolina, as well to promote the development of biotechnology and new medicine industries in Nanjing.
This event features speakers from both Nanjing and North Carolina governments, executives of multinational pharmaceutical companies and Chinese companies and representatives of NC Biotechnology Center, CABA-NC and CAST-NC.
Refreshment will be served at the beginning of the seminar. Chinese cuisine and pizza will be served around 4:30PM as dinner.

峰会的主要目的是通过CMU在计算机方面的优势和影响力为中美的业内精英互动和中美科技创新提供一个交流的平台，为全美的留学生提供创业和创新的机会。届时将有众多中美知名企业家和投资人，IT和其它领域的知名校友以及相关政府政策专家与会作为keynote speaker或者参与panel discussion。整个峰会为期两天，包括keynote speech, panel discussion, (共六个panel： IT, innovation&entrepreneurship, new energyt, finance&investment, health care&bio tech, etc.)，以及最终的创业大赛。 大赛主要面向是由学生组成的创业队伍；决赛将采用pitch competition的形式，由知名企业家和投资人作为评委，参赛的队伍除最终的奖金之外更有可能获得今后长期的投资合作机会。
在整个峰会的筹备方面，keynote speaker部分已经得到王功权，徐小平初步确认，真格基金、金沙江创投、华山资本等国内知名投资团队也将对峰会提供大力支持并作为pitch competition的评委，其他keynote以及各个panel的speaker也在逐步联系确认中。峰会定于4月28日,29日两天在匹兹堡卡耐基梅隆大学举行，有关峰会的进一步详细信息可以登录峰会网站http://www.cmusummit.org

]]>OIS needs your help!
How does OIS welcome and orient approximately 1000 new international students in the Fall of 2012? We rely on fantastic volunteers! OIS is looking for enthusiastic and energetic individuals to serve as Small Group Leaders (SGLs) for Fall 2012 New International Student Orientation. Small Group Leaders are essential to the success of orientation. They keep in touch with students around the world during the summer months to answer questions and offer advice. When new students arrive on campus they get to meet their SGLs and others in the group. They are instantly connected with a network of friends.
What does it take to be a SGL?
Volunteers can serve as Small Group Leaders from anywhere during the summer, as long as they have access to email. Each SGL will have a partner SGL. The two partners will be assigned 20-30 new international students. Other than maintaining contact over the summer, SGLs are asked to be at orientation on August 10th to meet with their groups and help coordinate the event. We estimate it will take 20 hours between a training session in late April and Orientation Day in August.
Why become a SGL?
There are many benefits to being a Small Group Leader. Besides the satisfaction of helping new students, SGLs gain cross-cultural experience, develop leadership skills, and meet new people from around the world! If you are interested in becoming a Small Group Leader for Fall 2012, please contact Lauren_Ball@ncsu.edu. The priority deadline is April 9th.

When we are approaching the end of this academic year, CSSFA is anticipating our new committee term for 2012-2013.
Sincere thanks to everyone’s support and participation to make our Chinese community a better living place during this year. The 2011-2012 CSSFA Committee term will be ended in April 30, 2012. CSSFA is seeking nominations for 2012-2013 President. Any Chinese students/scholars currently enrolled at NCSU can nominate him/herself to be the president candidate.
The nominations will be announced after the deadline (April 6, 2012) . The current CSSFA committee will hold a formal election for all candidates. Chinese community at and around NCSU can vote in the election. The details of the election will be announced later. This summer, N.C. State is bringing Ms. Tian Zeng (曾天) from China’s most prestigious university, Beijing University (北京大学), to co-teach MEA 150 (Environmental Issues) with Dr. Michael Kimberley during the second summer session (June 28 to Aug. 2). All course material will be provided in both English and Chinese and Ms. Zeng will provide auxiliary language instruction. Ms. Zeng was Dr. Kimberley’s language instructor for two months last summer at Beijing University. Ms. Zeng will also provide cultural enrichment, including lessons on cooking authentic Chinese food that is rarely found in Chinese-American restaurants. MEA 150 has no course prerequisites and is well-suited to nonscience students who wish to experience Chinese culture while gaining four credits of college science. One may enroll in either the on-campus section (MEA 150-001, listed as class 3695) or in the distance-education section (MEA 150-601, listed as class 3785). Any questions may be directed in either English or Chinese to either Dr. Kimberley at NCSU (Kimberley@ncsu.edu) or to Ms. Zeng at Beijing University (zengtian08@126.com).

你是否还记得那些名字？——崔健，唐朝，张楚，窦唯，何勇，黑豹，Beyond, PinkFloyd, Eric Clapton, Guns N’Roses，甚至还有春哥，曾哥……
你是否还熟悉那些旋律？——《一无所有》，《无地自容》，《光辉岁月》……
或有意或无意，我们的成长留下了他们的印迹。第一次拨动吉他琴弦，第一次按下钢琴琴键……或许那样的第一次是在你两岁三岁懵懂无知之时，父母对你的期望；也或许那仅仅是在一周以前，你为了缓解学业工作的压力，转移老板的push。引导我们来到这里的原因各不相同，但却在这里寻找到了同样的快乐。
过去的一个月发生了很多很多事情，黑熊得到了人道主义关注，林书豪如日中天，储君访问若干国家踢了足球，王局深入内部痛打美帝之黑，武汉警方找回自行车挫败日本军国主义阴谋……等等等等，数不尽道不完，天朝镜花缘。当然，那些大都口味太重。而我们则需要更多的小清新，于是就我们排练了《花房姑娘》、《Tears in Heaven》、《Hallelujah》。
这都是大家生平的第一次合练，也是音乐小清新第一次尝试，很有意义的记录，所以在此mark一下。我们本非专业，一切练习合练的时间全部是从各种homework、research挤出来，加上均为现场录制，所以视频音频难免有不尽如人意的地方，如节奏不稳、忘词、走音等。不过，好消息是，我们现在录音设备和乐器种类都在不断丰富中，随着经验的逐渐积累，相信在不久的将来定会带给大家耳目一新的音乐。
